BUSAN, Dec. 2 – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Pusan National University (PNU) from South Korea have formalized an agreement to jointly offer a Dual Degree Master’s Program in Mechanical Engineering. This initiative builds upon the successful establishment of a similar Dual Degree Master’s Program with Kyushu University (Kyudai) earlier this year. The dual degree program is a key initiative under the CAMPUS Asia Plus Consortium, which includes Kyudai, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), PNU, and UTM.
The Collective Action for Mobility Program of University Students in Asia (CAMPUS Asia) is an intergovernmental initiative led by Japan, China, and Korea aimed at promoting collaboration among universities in the region. Established in 2011, the program has facilitated the development of various consortia and programs focused on fostering academic and cultural exchange. In 2021, the initiative expanded to include countries in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The CAMPUS Asia Energy and Environmental Science and Technology (EEST) program, established initially through cooperation between Kyudai, SJTU, and PNU, has now welcomed UTM as a new partner. The program has been renamed CAMPUS Asia Plus EEST to reflect this expanded regional participation.
In his speech, Assoc. Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Zaini Ahmad expressed great honor to PNU, Kyudai, and SJTU for accepting UTM as a member of the consortium.
This collaboration goes beyond academic recognition and achievements; it serves as a platform to promote international understanding and cooperation among the four universities. Through our partnership with Pusan National University (PNU), we aim to enhance our students’ education quality at an advanced level while fostering stronger institutional ties and cross-cultural connections.
The dual degree program will focus on the Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering offered by the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and will commence in March 2025.
Representing Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Che Rozid Mamat, Director of the Office of Strategy and Corporate Affairs (OSCA); Assoc. Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Zaini Ahmad, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (FKM); and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aminuddin Saat. On behalf of PNU, the representatives included Prof. Dr. Yang Minjong, Vice President for International Affairs, and Prof. Dr. Ju Chul Jung, Dean of the College of Engineering. Also in attendance were senior management and professors representing the CAMPUS Asia Plus Consortium, including delegates from Kyushu University (Kyudai) and Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU).
