Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Malaysia visits UTM Johor Bahru

JOHOR BAHRU, June 7 – A delegation led by China Embassy’s Counsellor in Malaysia, Counsellor Mr Zhao Changtao, accompanied by Ms. Zhang Tian (Attaché), visited University Teknologi Malaysia Johor Bahru Campus on 7 June 2023. The visit aimed to promote mutual understanding between the Embassy of China and UTM to discuss future collaboration.

Mr Zhao Changtao (Counsellor of the China Embassy in Malaysia) accompanied by Ms. Zhang Tian (Attaché of the China Embassy in Malaysia), were received by UTM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development) Prof. Dr. Ts Edy Tonnizam, accompanied by the Dean, Faculty of Chemical and Energy Engineering Prof. Dr. Rahmat Mohsin, the Director of UTM International Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Ariffin bin. Abu Hassan, UTM members and other delegates, at UTM’s Sultan Ibrahim Chancellery Building.

The visit was received by UTM’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Prof. Dr. Ts Edy Tonnizam bin Mohamad, accompanied by, the Director of UTM International Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Ariffin Abu Hassan, Dean of the Faculty of Chemical & Energy Prof Rahmat bin Mohsin and other members.

Prof Edy revealed UTM’s profile and achievements, notably in collaboration with Chinese universities. Both parties agree there are a lot of opportunities for future collaborations between Chinese universities and UTM,.e.g in student exchanges, joint teaching programs and research collaboration.

Mr Zhao Changtao also had a sharing session with Chinese students studying at UTM as coordinated through the UTM International Student Society (ISS) China. The majority of them are pursuing the master and Doctorate of Philosophy programmes at UTM. There are over 1,200 Chinese students studying at UTM, representing the largest population of UTM’s international students.
