GEOFIESTA 2022 was organized by the Centre of Tropical Geoengineering (GEOTROPIK), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). It aims to provide a global platform for bringing together experts, professionals, academicians, and researchers in civil engineering and related fields from local and international institutions and industries. Under the theme of Promoting Sustainable & Innovative Geoengineering, GEOFIESTA 2022 is dedicated to sharing the latest knowledge, discoveries, and innovative ideas in advanced technology in the field with participants.
Two main events were hosted during GEOFIESTA 2022: The 1st International Geoengineering Conference with keynote sessions, technical talks, oral presentations, and Anti-Collapse Geostructure Competition as young innovators compete for the strongest and most durable slope protection because of an earthquake. A total of 60 papers were accepted for an oral presentation after the initial review. And 11 teams were chosen to participate in Anti-Collapse Geostructure Competition.
GEOFIESTA 2022 kicks off on 21st July 2022 with an opening ceremony officiated by UKM at the Palm Garden Resort, Putrajaya. Meanwhile, the Anti-Collapse Geostructure Competition was conducted in UKM on 22nd July 2022. UNIMAS-Geotech from the Universiti of Malaysia, Sarawak, was announced as the overall winner. Meanwhile, the first runner-up (Earth Quack) and second runner-up (The Strain) were from UKM. All groups received certificates of participation, and winners received a cash prize, a certificate, and a trophy. The awards and closing ceremony were officiated by our Pro-Vice Chancellor – Professor Ts Dr Abd Latif bin Saleh, in the late afternoon of 22nd July 2022.
