The Hackidz team comprised Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) student and his teammate from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) was declared as winner at Hackfest MBSP 2021 competition organized by Majlis Perbandaran Seberang Perai (MBSP), a municipal town council in the state of Penang.

The Hackfest 2021 was organized virtually from the MBSP office in Bukit Mertajam, Penang due to the current situation which was heavily affected by pandemic of COVID-19.

UTM student, Oscar Ling along with his teammate Hoh Jian Da from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) has emerged Champion of the HACKFEST MBSP 2021 competition and bring home RM5,000.00 cash prize.

Hackfest MBSP 2021 was an event where developers, government employees, designers, journalists, data scientists, non – profit employees, designers and residents who care about their communities came together leveraging their skills to help their community by building solutions to improving MBSP’s services.

The Mayor of MBSP, Dato’ Sr. Hj Rozali Haji Mohamad said all the proposed solutions submitted will be fully owned by that town council.

“MBSP will consider implementing the project for our own use in improving services to the surrounding communities that are under our administrative area,” he said.

The hackathon competition has witnessed enthusiastic participation of pall participants from all over Malaysia comprising the Peninsula (Penang, Kedah, Perak, Selangor, Putrajaya, Melaka, Johor, Pahang, Kelantan, Terengganu) Sabah and Sarawak.

There were a total of 4 problem statements provided by the MBSP’s Management and Human Resource Department which Team Hackidz has tackled in the winning project.

The winning idea namely “ePencalonan” is a platform to digitalize the information collection process by incorporating technology such as Image Processing, Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies.

Oscar Ling from UTM and Hoh Jia Da from UPM of Team Hackidz was declared as winner of MBSB Hackfest 2021.
