JOHOR BAHRU – Two of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) academicians, lecturers and researchers were bestowed with several awards at the International Invention Innovation Competition in Canada (iCAN) 2020 on 10 September 2020.
The above mentioned academicians and researchers were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Siti Hamidah Mohd Setapar who obtained two awards and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Azizi Che Yunus who was bestowed with three awards.
Dr. Siti Hamidah who currently serves as a Deputy Dean (Research, Innovation, Commercialization and Linkages) at the Malaysia- Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT) has been awarded with Best Woman Inventor Award and Canadian Special Award.

Another UTM academicians and researchers, Dr Mohd Azizi Che Yunus had also been bestowed with several awards at the same occasion. The awards given were Best Invention Award (Top 10 Best Invention Award), Best Invention Video Award and Canadian Special Award.
The programme, organised by The Toronto International Society of Innovation and Advanced Skills (TISIAS) was held with the main purpose of acknowledging creativity engaged by innovators from Canada and the rest of the world while providing an opportunity towards participants to expand their activities by showcasing and promoting their inventions/new products while also achieving a new success of winning invention awards from Canada.

The event offered favourable programs such as combination of invention exhibition, educational seminar and award ceremony for inventors, students, researchers, and entrepreneurs from both local and overseas sectors.
Anyone with spectacular ideas in all categories can participate in the competition and benefit from all programs and exchange network with a diverse group of participants.
Due to Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, the iCAN 2020 was only held online for long-distance participants and there was no physical functions for exhibitions, seminar or award ceremony arranged at the venue, North York Memorial Community Hall in Toronto, Canada.
