Focused on four main research areas of electronics and biomedical instrumentation, biosensors, biomedical signal and image processing, and rehabilitation, bioMedical Instrumentation and Electronics Research Group (bMIE RG) has transformed the Electrophysiology Laboratory at School of Electrical Engineering, UTM.

The transformation engaged between the academicians of bMIE RG and assistant engineers (AE) was to raise new ideas, skills, and planning activities among them in the near future. Besides, the involvement of AE from the electronic engineering field would also benefit the department.

Firstly, they rearranged the partition inside of the laboratory to fit the students’ active learning activity and fully utilize the space for electrical and electronics workstation projects. Nonetheless to set up a space for demonstrating the Capstone Projects by undergraduate students to attract other students and visitors toward bMIE RG research-related field as well. This could encourage more students to further their studies or career in the biomedical instrumentation and electronics field.

Even though an electrophysiology term is the study of electrical properties of biological cells and tissues, it is not limited to the knowledge of biology and histology, yet to widen the knowledge that diverse with electronics and electrical engineering. As such, it also includes developing cell sorting device, electronic nose, biometrics, prosthetic design, ultrasound imaging, human biopotential classification, recognition or even prediction of arrhythmia.

bMIE RG hopes to nurture the young generation to be exposed and interested in their field of study, not just excellent during the study but in the long term, they must be able to tackle and solve the world problems.
