Edu-Culture Trip 2019 to Bangkok for Final Year Students from Urban and Regional Planning FABU

Recently, the 4th-year students of Urban and Regional Planning had organized an Edu-Culture Trip to Bangkok from 27th March to 31st March. The trip involved 47 final year students of BURP, three research assistants and two accompanying lecturers, Prof Dr. Ho. Chin Siong and Dr. Gobi Krishna a/l Sinniah. The Edu-Culture Trip 2019 to Bangkok is wholly a student initiative program to create opportunities for them to discover the abroad planning system and practice in Thailand. The program was expected to give new perspectives and views of the real-world planning scenarios in other developing country. The program was also an effort to expose the students to practical learning as our current syllabus only concentrates on theoretical approaches.

The trip covered an official visit to King Mongkut Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL), Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning Bangkok and excursion activities such as exploring the heritage trail around Grand Palaces, Wat Arun and Chao Praya River.

During the official visit to KMITL and AIT, a few of our student representatives were assigned to present their products from final studio, the project planning exercise which involved the preparation of the preliminary report, feasibility report, detailed layout and 3D master plan. The presentation was followed by a fruitful knowledge sharing session by Prof Dr. Ho. Chin Siong and Dr. Gobi Krishna a/l Sinniah.

The trip ended with the official visit to KMITL, AIT, and Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning Bangkok and simultaneously created an opportunity for us to promote UTM and Iskandar Malaysia in Bangkok. Consequently, the Edu-Culture Trip 2019 to Bangkok has definitely created a long term benefit for students, department, faculty, and university.
