MJIIT in Collaboration with Yamaguchi University organized Robotic Competition for Secondary School Students

Kuala Lumpur, 18 & 19 August 2018 – Malaysia Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT) through Centre for Community and Industry Network (CCIN) in collaboration with Yamaguchi University have successfully organized a robotic competition for secondary school students under 18 years old. The competition was held at Language Laboratory 3 & 4, level 2, MJIIT.

The two-day program was headed by Dr. Ahmad Muhsin Ithnin, Senior Lecturer from the Department of Mechanical Precision Engineering, MJIIT, Dr. Mohd Azizi Abdul Rahman, Senior Lecturer from the Department of Electronic System Engineering, MJIIT and Associate Professor Dr. Tsuyoshi Koga from Graduate School of Sciences and Technology for Innovation (Engineering), Yamaguchi University. There were 14 Yamaguchi undergraduate students helping and mentoring the school students throughout the event.

The program started with Robotic Workshop supervised by Associate Professor Dr. Tsuyoshi Koga. The contestants formed groups which every group consisted of two school students and two Yamaguchi students. Every group needed to build and program a sumo robot by using Lego Mind Storm. The students were exposed and gained experience on programming and controlling the robot with two tyres and the robots needed to be well balanced before entering the competition ring. The aim of the workshop was not only to enhance the students’ technical knowledge on robotic, but also to gain new experience in communicating and working with international students.

The Robotic Competition started on the second day of the program and the format of the competition is set to be a ‘sudden death’ type. The group from St. John`s Institution, Ilhammencez Bin Mohd Rasyidi and Ryan Tam Chee Man were announced as the winners of the competition, successfully beaten the group from SMK Seri Gombak Haziq Aiman Bin Mohd Faizal and Muhammad Najmie Hakim Bin Tajudin in the final round.
