Faculty of Built Environment selected as Satellite myBIM Centre for CIDB

Johor Bahru, 20th November 2017 – The Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) launched the first one-stop myBIM Centre in Malaysia on 20th November 2017. This RM3 million centre was officially launched by Works Minister Dato’ Sri Fadillah Yusof.  This centre targets to promote better implementation of Building Information Modelling (BIM) in the construction industry.  BIM as the most recent technology used in construction industry, will not only assist construction players in digitalising the representation of building, but also facilitate better collaboration and efficient information exchange between construction parties.  The CIDB’s myBIM centre, which consists of myBIM studio, myBIM lab, conference room and seminar room aims to provide facilities for practitioners to accommodate BIM training programmes.

In line with this, CIDB has signed the Memorandum of Understanding with five universities in Malaysia, namely, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP), Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) to expand BIM training programs through satellite centre at these universities.  Faculty of Built Environment UTM through Building Information Modelling Centre for Digital Innovations and Solutions (BIMCDIS) will become the Satellite myBIM Centre for CIDB.  BIMCDIS, with its expertise and facilities provided such as the newly upgraded Quantity Surveying Computer Lab, could highly contribute to CIDB’s myBIM Centre.  Under this Memorandum of Understanding, BIMCDIS will be hosting various BIM training programmes for construction practitioners in the southern region.  The MoU document was exchanged during the launching of the CIDB’s myBIM Centre.
