JOHOR BAHRU, 22 October 2016 – The environment of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) as a Research University (RU) much influences student success in their studies until becoming the best they can be.
This was acknowledged by two graduates of the Royal Education Award recipient, Mohd. Anas Asalem and Ooi Ennie after the 57th convocation of the university held at Dewan Sultan Iskandar today.
Mohd. Anas, 23, said that the learning environment in UTM is very comfortable because of the complete research facilities and experienced academic staff.
“I do not deny that UTM is a very comfortable place to learn and this factor is the main reason I have achieved what I have today,” said the Teluk Intan native.
Mohd. Anas begun studying in 2012 to 2016 and graduated with a Bachelor of Petroleum Engineering with 3.67 Cumulative Grade Point Average.
This opinion was supported by colleague, Ennie Ooi, 23, who was also the recipient of the same award. The graduate with a Bachelor of Psychology in Human Resource Management said apart from a conducive learning environment, student activities also helped much in strengthening the academic achievement of students.
“When students are pressed with classes and assignments they will participate in student society activities as a way to relieve stress for a while.
“The UTM curriculum system does not restrict its students to join any association of students. As a student, you have the right to make the choice to join any association according to your interests, “she said.
Ennie also said that joining the student societies helps much in developing the soft skills among students besides to help relieve stress due to learning activities.
“These soft skills are among important aspects when seeking employment nowadays. The best academic results and skills do not guarantee your selection if you lack soft skills,” said Ennie who currently serves as a consultant in a human resource firm in Singapore.
