UTM ProBioRefine 2015 Workshop Successful in Bringing Together Industry & Academia

JOHOR BAHRU, 7 December 2015 – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) through the Faculty of Chemical and Energy Engineering  (FKT) organized a ProBioRefine 2015 workshop located at Bioproducts Development Institute (IBD).
The workshop organized in collaboration with the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) saw both local and international participants from countries such as Thailand, South Korea and Denmark.
The Chairman of ProBioRefine 2015, Prof. Dr. Zainuddin Abd. Manan said the workshop also brought together industry representatives like BioTech Corp, Felda Global Ventures (FGV), Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), together with representatives from both local and overseas institutions of higher learning such as Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP), Chulalongkorn University, Auburn University and the University of Nottingham Malaysia.
He was speaking at a press conference held after the opening ceremony of the workshop that was officiated by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), Prof. Dr. Rose Alinda Alias.
“The main objective of the workshop was to discuss issues related to the application of mass of fuel to fire source and renewable chemicals.
“Various aspects have been touched involving systematic processing methods using the latest methods and long-term strategy. These objectives can be achieved through various methods of sharing such as forums, presentation of research studies and deliberations among researchers, “he said.
UTM fully supports this initiative as it is consistent with one of the main thrusts of the National Higher Education Strategic Plan (PSPTN) which is intensifying internationalization through collaboration among institutions of higher learning from abroad.
“This programme is also in line with the university’s aspiration to establish an innovation ecosystem that connects education and the industry.
