The 1st International Exchange Workshop of Architecture and Urban Landscape Design were conducted on 4 – 11th September 2015 between Shibaura Institute of Technology (SIT), Japan and the Department of Landscape Architecture, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in Johor. The workshop involved 9 third year architecture students from SIT and 10 students third year landscape architecture students from UTM. The topic covered in the studio project was ‘Regeneration of the Johor Bahru old town ’.
Apart from the workshop, the participants also got to experience the local culture and activities in the city of Johor Bahru. They also went for a study visit to Singapore’s old district and to Nusajaya.
This workshop was a success, particularly in relation to international collaborations and cross-cultural benefits pertaining to urban design studies between Shibaura Institute of Technology (SIT), Japan and the Department of Landscape Architecture, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).
The next collaboration will involve the same 10 students from the Department of Landscape Architecture, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) going to Shibaura Institute of Technology (SIT) for the 2nd International Exchange Workshop of Architecture and Urban Landscape Design 2016 in Tokyo, Japan.
