JOHOR BAHRU, 6 August 2015 – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) was placed 4th place in the ranking for the 2015 Malaysia University Sports Council (MASUM) event which ended last Thursday.
The closing ceremony was officiated by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Prof. Dr. Mohd. Ismail Abd. Aziz held at UTM Johor Bahru campus Sports Complex.
UTM managed to win a total of 12 gold medals, 10 silver medals and 16 bronze medals.
Senior Sports Officer at the UTM Sports Excellence Centre, Armadi Ahmad said UTM’s gold medal target was 50, but unfortunately the target fell short.
“I can say that our athletes have tried their best, but luck was not on our side. Other contingents also put up a fierce fight, fielding more experienced athletes who represented their respective sports at either the state or national level,” he said.
For the record, a total of 20 universities took part in this event with UiTM becoming the champion with a 58 gold medals followed by Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) 29 gold medals and Universiti Malaya (UM) in third place with 14 gold medals.
UTM obtained its gold medals through Swimming (Men), Karate Do (Men), Volleyball (Women), Lawn Bowls (Men) and Pencak Silat (Men).
