JOHOR BAHRU, 1 Ogos 2015 – Norezzayana Binti Rohaizat, a Faculty of Geoinformation and Property Management (FGHT) student, is the Malaysian winner of the 2015 Environmental System Research Institute (ESRI) Young Scholars Award.
As the recipient of the award, Norezzayana received an all-access pass to the Esri International User Conference in San Diego, California, which she attended from 20 to 24 July 2015.
Her winning project entry titled “Engaging students via ArcGIS Mobile Data Collector in a sustainable green campus campaign developed to create a healthy living environment and sustainable icon for Iskandar Malaysia” was displayed alongside the work of other international ESRI Young Scholars’ winners.
Speaking upon her return to Malaysia, Norezzayana said that she has gained invaluable knowledge about the utilization of Geographical Information System (GIS) used in the United States.
“In the U.S., the GIS application is used for a variety of purposes such as defense, homeland security, and border monitoring system.”
Norezzayana said that she also had the opportunity to exchange views, particularly on the use of ArcGIS software, with other ESRI winners from across the globe.
Norezzayana also had the chance to visit the U.S.-Mexico border at San Diego and witnessed first hand how the American authority professionally used GIS technology to control the U.S. border zone.
