JOHOR BAHRU, 25 April 2015 – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) has achieved another record when a total of 256 graduates received their Doctoral Degrees (PhD) at the 54th UTM Convocation Ceremony.
UTM Vice-Chancellor, Prof Datuk Dr Wahid Omar said that the PhD graduates comprised of 117 males and 85 females, the highest number of PhD recipients ever produced since the first that PhD graduate in 1989.
At this ceremony, two PhD graduates, namely, Bakhtiar Ul Haq (Physics) and Nurul Farhana Jumaat (Education Technology) received the coveted Chancellor’s Award. Both received their awards from the Chancellor of UTM, Her Royal Highness (HRH) Raja Zarith Sofiah Binti Almarhum Sultan Idris Shah.
The Chancellor has also consented to confer the title of Emeritus Professor to the Consultant of Research and Policy Coordination, Ministry of Education, Prof. Dr. Md. Yusof Abu Bakar.
A total of 2,392 graduates, including 471 from the UTM joint colleges programme received their degrees and diplomas at the s-day convocation ceremony which took place from 25 to 26 April 2015 at Dewan Sultan Iskandar, UTM Johor Bahru.
Of the total, 376 are international graduates from 32 countries, of which Iran recorded the highest number with 113, followed by Nigeria (50) and Iraq (40).
