JOHOR BAHRU, 30 September 2014 – The Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) World-Class Research Library, Perpustakaan Raja Zarith Sofiah or PRZS was officially launched by the Tunku Temenggong of Johor, Tunku Idris Iskandar Ibni Sultan Ibrahim.
The launching ceremony was held at PRZS Main Lobby and accompanied by Vice Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Ir. Dr. Wahid Omar.
Deputy Chief Librarian of Library Service Division, Noraziah Sharuddin said the four storey building with 8,250 meters wide is able to load more than 500,000 printed reference materials to meet the need of world-class teaching and learning process.
“Besides its ability to accommodate 2,000 peoples at one time, this building was also equipped with latest Information and Communication Technology (ICT) which allow fast and complete access to library collection,” she said.
Other than academic reference materials, PRZS has also allocated some spaces for Research and Raja Zarith Sofiah Gallery, which houses the collection of books and printed items by Her Royal Highness.
“This Research Gallery on the other hands, provides information and data about the Research and Development (R&D) achievement of the university.
“This is to inspire the UTM younger researchers to appreciate the research contribution to mankind,” she said.
All the books and collections can be shared by UTM and outside communities as well.
The Tunku Temenggong of Johor was also pleased to launch the Adat Istiadat Kesultanan Johor Moden 1855-2012 book written by Yang Dipertua Majlis Jemaah Di Raja Johor, Dato’ Abdul Rahim Ramli.
This book documented a brief background about the Johor Sultanate with the objective to provide good research and historical reference for the future generation.
Also attending the launching ceremony were Pro-Chancellor, Dato’ Dr. Haji Muhammad Ridzuan Salleh and UTM Chief Librarian, Hjh. Kamariah Nor Mohd Desa.
