JOHOR BAHRU, June 18 – A total of 400 secondary and primary school students around Pasir Gudang will  benefit from an English Language Enrichment Programme, organised by Language Academy, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM)  for Johor Port Berhad Malaysia, in collaboration with UTM Community Transformation Centre and Pasir Gudang District Education Office.

The programme was officially launched at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Taman Bukit Dahlia, Pasir Gudang by the Johor Port Berhad General Manager of Human Resource, Hermee Tahir accompanied by UTM Community Transformation Center (CTC) Director, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nur Naha Abu Mansor.

Dr. Nur Naha who was met after the launching ceremony said that the main purpose of this programme is to provide an effective, enriching, and a fun English language teaching and learning environment.

“This is the largest English coaching programme ever held, with the programme lasting for two years, and involving 50 academic staff of UTM Language Academy.

“The programme will empower students to take ownership of their own English language learning, through three main projects, namely, Reading Digest, Language Camp, and Online English Language Help Desk,” she said.

Dr. Nur Naha also hopes that this programme will achieve its objectives, which include equipping students with the basic skills of the English language to enable them to communicate with confidence, adding value to the existing English language  school curriculum, and providing an avenue for school students to be immersed in an enriching English speaking environment.

“It is hoped that the participating students  will take this opportunity to master the English language which is important for their future,” said Dr. Nur Naha.

Also attending the launching ceremony was Prof. Dr.  Masputeriah Hamzah, Director of UTM Corporate Affairs, Assoc. Prof. Dr Noor Abidah Omar, Dean of Language Academy, UTM, and Assistant District Education Officer, Kumaran s/o Apala Naidu who is also the officer responsible for the English language subject (Primary), District Education Office of Pasir Gudang.
