JOHOR BAHRU, 2 April – The Institute of Bioproduct Development Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (IBDUTM) officially became a precursor to the traditional Malay massage upon receiving a certificate of franchise from the Ministry Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK).
The certificate has been received by the Director IBDUTM, Prof. Ramlan Aziz from the Minister of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism, Dato’ Sri Hassan Malik at the Franchise Day 2014 ceremony organised by the ministry at the Multipurpose Hall of the ministry in Putrajaya.
IBDUTM Program Coordinator, Jaffrey Samsul Darman said the assignment of this certificate was the first of its kind for the Public Higher Institutions category.
“With the assignment of this certification, we are now the holder of the franchise brand for Bakawali SPA Malay House of Wellness, the Malays traditional health treatment based business.
“This business concept was being developed collaboratively between IBDUTM and Phyto Biznet Sdn. Bhd. with the utilization of massage oil and other medicine developed by the institute itself,” he said.
The Bakawali SPA also targets low-income and single parents to get involved in the business by using micro package for kiosks and mobile in order to increase their income.
“For those who are interested, three main packages have been provided which are outlet, kiosk and mobile (mobile massage).
“The cost for the outlet package is RM310, 120.00, RM 67,500.00 for kiosks and RM23, 000.00 for mobile massage services. This includes franchisee fee, the accessories of SPA and massage training courses at IBDUTM for a period of one month,” he said.
Currently the Bakawali SPA operates at an outlet at Block N23 , UTM Johor Bahru.
