JOHOR BAHRU, 3rd September 2013: A team from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) has won first runner-up in the 7th Student Design Competition (SDC) at International Convention on Rehabilitation Engineering & Assistive Technology (i-CREATe) at KINTEX, Gyeonggi-do , Korea.
Khor Kang Xiang, Fu Suan Kian and Patrick Chin Jun Hua from from Faculty of Electrical Engineering, under Dr.Yeong Che Fai supervision won the competition through their Final Year Project titled “Compact Rehabilitation Robot”.
They brought home cash prize USD700 and certificate.
Mahidol University from Thailand won first place and Finders University from Australia won 2nd runner-up.
Dr.Yeong Che Fai said, the i-CREATe is an annual student design competition that challenges undergraduates from all over the world to develop creative and innovative Assistive & Rehabilitation Technology (A&RT) projects that socially benefits and improves the quality living of people with special needs and elderly.
“It is a competitive innovation competition joined by 24 teams from different countries, including Thailand, Indonesia, South Korea, Indonesia, Singapore, Australia and Malaysia, he said.
He cited, the project will be commercialized soon and shows UTM students’ project are competitive in international arena.
The team would also like to express their acknowledgment to Centre of Student Innovation (CSI), Innovation and Commercialization Centre (ICC) and UTM for providing full support in this project.
