KUALA LUMPUR, Feb. 23, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) won big with 11 gold medals, 11 silver medals and 9 bronze medals at the Malaysia Technology Expo (MTE) 2013, which ended last Saturday.

The achievement became more meaningful when two UTM lecturers were selected as the recipient of the Best of the Best Award and all 31 products which competed won medals.

The recipient of the Best of the Best Award was Senior Lecturer of Faculty of Education, Dr. Faizah Abdul Ghani, who produced the Model Sayangku: An Islamic Psychological Intervention Programme developed to address the problems of youths who are involved in free sexual activities.

While Prof. Dr. Hazlina Selamat from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering won the award through her research to develop Retrofit ECU – Electronic Control Unit for fuel injection for carburetor engines.
They received a cash prize of RM1, 000.00, trophy and certificate respectively.
In addition, UTM also won the Best Booth award.

The success to bring home 11 gold medals, 11 silver medals and 9 bronze medals makes UTM the most medal winner amongst higher learning institutions in the country, repeating its outstanding achievement in 2012.
The MTE 2013, held at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) Kuala Lumpur from 21 to 23 February 2013, saw a total of 440 research and development products from local and abroad displayed.

The annual event becomes a platform for researchers to exhibit their latest products and also a strategic location for business matching between industry and researchers.

The success proves that UTM research products have been recognised, and at the same time, researchers are able to bring the product to the market.
Congratulations to the researchers who have been working hard to bring honour to UTM.

Meanwhile, Vice Chancellor, Professor Dato ‘Seri Dr Zaini Ujang and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Professor Ir Dr Mohd Azraai Kassim congratulated all those who have been successful in MTE 2013.
Hopefully their success will encourage other UTM researchers to strive harder to achieve greater heights in the future in producing highly impactful research with innovation quality.

The research products are expected to be utilized by the world community, thereby contributing to enhance the national economy through commercialization process.
