UTM Vice Chancellor, Professor Datuk Dr Zaini Ujang said, MyLinE, or Online Resources for Learning in English, is a virtual learning environment developed by Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and is accessible to half a million users.
“The portal, which is maintained and managed by UTM on behalf of the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia (MoHE) was developed to enhance the English language proficiency of the graduates in the country.
“To increase the capacity of the system in accommodating more users in the future, UTM and Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad (TalentCorp) has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to develop the Ready4Work link,” he said.
The MoA was signed by Professor Zaini on behalf of UTM and Chief Executive Officer Talent Corp Johan Mahmood Merican at UTM, today.
Professor Zaini said, Ready4Work is a self-access online portal that serves as a one-stop centre with the aim of addressing the skill gaps of the Malaysian workforce and connecting them with potential employers.
“The Ready4Work link is an online learning platform that houses high-quality content from top companies on career and necessary skills required to increase the marketability and employability of young talents in public Institutions of Higher Learning (IHLs) in Malaysia.
“TalentCorp is collaborating with UTM through MyLinE, a learning portal which provides resources and activities that allow students to meet, learn English and learn in English online,” he cited.
The main focus of the content is developing the ‘soft skills’ required for employment.
He said, the content of the Ready4Work link includes guides on interview tips and preparation, including a series that helps users to identify weaknesses in their interview techniques and how to address them from the employers’ perspective; a series of online learning on skills valued by companies such as problem solving and communication skills; and a collection of inspirational and motivational talks by senior leaders from participating companies.
The companies participating in this collaboration are Accenture, Axiata, CIMB, Ernst & Young, Maxis, Maybank, Motorola, Intel, Price Waterhouse Coopers and Telekom Malaysia.
The portal will be launched at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Kuala Lumpur campus on 31st October 2012 by His Honourable, Dato’ Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Minister of Higher Education, Malaysia.
