A Celebration of Collaboration between UTM School of Computing-DHL Asia Pacific Innovation Center

DHL Asia Pacific Innovation Center in partnership with Iskandar Investment Berhad (IIB) had organized an event to welcome delegations from UTM to DHL Global Center of Excellence (GCOE) at Medini, Iskandar Malaysia on 25 August 2020.

This event was organised to celebrate the successful collaboration between UTM School of Computing and DHL Customer Solutions & Innovation in industrial placement of students from Master of Science (Data Science) program.

The collaboration which started early this year is coordinated by Dr. Nor Erne Nazira as the program coordinator and participated by pioneer students of the program.

Despite COVID-19 pandemic, both parties managed to overcome the challenges of switching it to fully online mode with great cross-nation communication between DHL Customer Solutions & Innovation in Singapore and UTM.

Delegations from UTM, who were also joined by the Chair, School of Computing, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wan Mohd Nasir, Assoc. Chair (Academic & Student Development), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dayang Norhayati, Director (Applied Computing), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Roliana, Dr. Nor Erne Nazira, Dr. Iqbal and Dr. Afnizanfaizal, had received a very warm welcome from the President/CEO of Iskandar Investment Berhad (IIB), Datuk Ir. Khairil Anwar Ahmad, Vice President & Head of DHL’s Business Development, Mr. Lau Tian Chen, IIB’s VPs and DHL team.

The event started with opening speeches from Datuk Ir. Khairil and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wan Mohd Nasir, followed by a virtual discussion with DHL Customer Solutions & Innovation team from Singapore on current collaboration updates and future direction.

UTM delegates were honoured with an appreciation ceremony where Datuk Ir. Khairil and Mr. Lau Tian Chen presented the students and coordinator with certificate of appreciation and pewter engraved with their names.

There was also a special guided tour at Medini 9 building where the IIB office is situated. The delegates had the chance to have 360 degree view of the Iskandar land from level 16 which was breathtaking. To end the day, the UTM delegates were treated by DHL Asia Pacific Innovation with a feast at a local restaurant nearby.

UTM highest gratitude goes to Iskandar Investment Berhad (IIB), Medini Iskandar Malaysia (MIM), as well as DHL for the opportunities given to UTM staff and students to work with data scientist team from DHL Customer Solutions & Innovation at GCOE in Medini, Iskandar Malaysia.

Congratulations to Dr. Nor Erne Nazira Bazin as the coordinator and M.Sc (Data Science) students, Arisha and Durkah, who successfully completed the industrial placement at DHL. UTM School of Computing agreed to work hand in hand with DHL and IIB in developing digital talents, especially to meet the local demands.
