BANDAR SUNWAY, 18 August 2016 – Two teams from UTM have participated and won three awards at the Malaysia Telemedicine Innovation Challenge 2016 that was organised by Ministry of Health Malaysia, Monash University and Collaborative Research in Engineering, Science and Technology (CREST).
Team Supervisor, Dr. Eileen Su Lee Ming said that team Mini Heartcatcher won the First Prize of the Open category with a product that captures heart rhythm, analyses the rhythm with web-based intelligent algorithm and alerts the user if abnormality is detected. This team also brought home RM 3,000.00 cash money.
“The second team, JEC-Count bagged the Audience Selected Project and the third prize of Mobile Health Category with prize money of RM 1,500.00 and RM1,000.00 respectively.
“The JEC-Count presented a portable platelet counter based on mobile application,” said Dr. Eileen.
The Mini Heartcatcher team was represented by Heng Wei Wei, Stanly Steve Sylvester and Liew Tian Chin while JEC-Count team was represented by Jasmine Lim Yu Ming, Chan Zhou Hai and Erra Elvyna Langeh Randin from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering.
The faculty members involved in this competition were Dr. Yeong Che Fai, Dr. Mohd Azhar Abdul Razak, Dr. Micheal Tan, Dr. Fauzan Khairi and postgraduate student, Khor Kang Xiang.
The Telemedicine Innovation Challenge 2016 was organized in conjunction with the Telemedicine Conference 2016 and was officially officiated by Director General of Health, Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah.
This year, participant teams include clinicians from university and the industry from Malaysia and Indonesia. The challenge was divided into two categories namely Open and Mobile Health.
