Dato’ Yasmin appointed as Adjunct Professor

JOHOR BAHRU, 20 April – Chief Executive Officer of Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDeC) Dato’ Yasmin Mahmood has been appointed as Adjunct Professor at the UTM Faculty of Computing to share her vast experience in multinational company in information technology and communication.
She received a letter of appointment from Deputy Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Rose Alinda Alias after delivering a speech entitled Towards Empowering Malaysian Women in Technology at the Banquet Hall, yesterday.
Dato’ Yasmin Mahmood who is also a CEO @ Faculty Programme Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) started her career as an analyst programmer with a local bank after having graduated double-major in Computer Science and Mathematics.
She subsequently worked her way up to become the General Manager of Hewlett Packard Malaysia’s Commercial Channels Organisation and then took on the double-role of General Manager of Dell Malaysia and Regional Corporate Director.
Dato’ Yasmin moved on to become Microsoft Malaysia’s Managing Director in 2006 and became known for her “Malaysianising Microsoft” mantra and in aligning the strength of what was then the world’s most powerful software company with Malaysia’s national and development agenda.
In September 2014, she accepted the national calling of becoming CEO of MDEC; to make a difference and utilise her expertise and experience for the betterment of the nation. MDEC, a government agency as well as an investment promotion agency (IPA) spearheads the Digital Malaysia agenda.
Digital Malaysia is a national initiative that drives IT investments into the country, builds local tech champions into global icons, catalyses digital innovation ecosystems and promotes digital inclusivity amongst the rakyat.
Today, she also serves as a board member of Bintulu Port Holding Berhad, Cyberview Sdn Bhd, Malaysia Global Innovation and Creativity (MaGIC), MyWin Academy.
In addition, as an active advocate of women empowerment in the workplace, Dato’ Yasmin is a mentor for the Lean-in Career Programme, an initiative that empowers, enables and educates women to accelerate their professional careers. She is also a Founding Patron of Gorgeous Greeks, an NGO advocating Women Empowerment with ICT.
Dato’ Yasmin was also recently appointed as an Adjunct Professor to the Faculty of Computer and Mathematical Sciences at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM)).
