UTM Postgraduate Student Society Conducted Study Visit to Universitas Gadjah Mada Indonesia

YOGYAKARTA, 21 August 2015 – The Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Postgraduate Student Society (PGSS-UTM) in collaboration with the School of Postgraduate Studies (SPS) have organized an International Postgraduate Colloqium & Academic Visit to Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM).
The visit was conducted with the intention of building a platform for knowledge sharing and international collaboration between UTM and UGM.
Programme Coordinator, Prof. Dr. Nor Haniza Sarmin said that UGM was chosen due to its reputation in contributing towards the Indonesian national development.
Among the activities during the 6-day trip from 16th – 21 August 2015 included  attending the Postgraduate Colloquium, and meeting with UGM Postgraduates Society or Himpunan Mahasiswa Pascasarjana (HMP).
“The meeting was held at level 5 of Sekolah Pasca Sarjana (SPS UGM) with participants from UTM and committee members of HMP UGM including their President. It was an informal meeting and information pertaining to  availability of scholarships, conferences and programme offered was shared” she said.
The UTM delegation also visited the UGM Research Centre called Gamatechno, owned by UGM. It is actually a company established by 7 pioneers who are alumni of UGM.
“Gamatechno latest invention is the ‘The Smart City Package’ , produced  in collaboration with local banks, with bank Auto Teller Machine (ATM) cards also functioning as a kind of touch-n-go cards,” she said.
On the last day of the trip (August 20th 2015), both sides met at the UGM Office of International Affairs, where further discussions on future collaborations  such as scholarships from MJIIT, and halal food, were held.
The trip was deemed a success particularly in terms of bonding and strengthening existing ties between UTM and UGM.
