UTM has been ranked 98th in the UI-GreenMetric World University Ranking 2013, from a total of 301 participating Universities. This is an improvement in UTM’s 2012 ranking which was 139.

This is an indication of UTM’s excellence in promoting sustainability through green technology and effective energy management.

The Green Metric Ranking highlights universities that actively reduce their CO2 emissions and help to fight climate change. The ranking covers six main categories, each with its own weighting factor: setting and infrastructure (15%), energy and climate change (21%), waste management (18%), water usage (10%), transportation (18%) and education (18%).
