UTM ARCHITECTURAL STUDENTS WON TOP PRIZES IN MUFORS ROAD REELS : SHORT FILM COMPETITION 2011

 

Subang, 28 Jan 2011: UTM architectural students teams won top and second prizes in the Malaysians Unite for Road Safety (MUFORS) Road Reels : Short Film Competition for Students of Higher Learning.

The film entitled ‘Road.Rude! won the first prize for ‘Best Animation’, ‘Best Director’ as well as the ‘Best Overall Film Award’in animation category and also received special jury subsidiary prizes. They received RM 11 000 in total cash prize, trophies as well as certificates. The film is also nominated for the ‘Best Script’ award.

The 5th year students represented by Mohd Nor Izwan bin Samani, and Atta Idrawani bin Zaini, competed among other 141 entries from various higher learning institutions in Malaysia.

“MUFORS Road Reels” is initiated by MUFORS, a community in giving road safety advocacy a fresh approach by encouraging people from all walks of life to take ownership of road safety and specify “what my role is in promoting road safety and saving lives”. The short film competition is opened to students of all universities, colleges and institutions of higher learning in Malaysia with the theme “Attitudes on Roads – A Malaysian Journey”. MUFORS

The other team won second prize for their outstanding video entitled ‘Which Connection’. They brought home RM 8000 with trophies and certificates while both teams received RM 5000 on behalf of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. This team from 4th year architectural students, Muhammad Faiz bin Pazanon and Bakri Hafiz bin Hisham, have participated in the short film/ mini documentary category.

The professional jury for the competition were among eminent personalities in film and creative industry, namely M. Subash, Johan Nawawi, Norhayati Kaprawi and many others. The prestigious award night was held in Persada Plus, and among who came were students from various universities, members of the press, celebrities and corporate members.

The objective of the competition is to give students of institutions of higher learning a platform through short films to play their part in changing negative attitudes on Malaysian roads by capturing moments and messages that will reflect attitudes on Malaysian roads and how these attitudes are related to road accidents and deaths.
