SINGAPORE, 19 May 2019 – Students from School of Electrical Engineering (SKE), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) represented Malaysia in Singapore Youth Innovation 2019 organised by Infocom Media Development Authority – IMDA.
The sub event under the SG Digital Wonderland was held in Singapore Suntec City from 17th May until 20th May 2019.
UTM team manager, Dr. Yeong Chee Fai said that 20 teams from six countries were selected as the finalists competing against each other for their projects aiming at making the world a better place.
“The participants came from Singapore, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Brunei, Indonesia and Malaysia. UTM had the great honour to represent Malaysia in this annually tech festival in Singapore that was flooded with up to 15,000 visitors. All finalists were also provided with SGD2000.00 to cover their expenses during their stay in Singapore,” he said.
The team comprised Salehuddin Loke, Nurfariz Syairazi , Badrulhisham Zamri and Soh Ghee Hou and was supervised by Dr Yeong Che Fai.
UTM team manager/ supervisor, Dr. Yeong Chee Fai said that their project was on (Virtual Reality) VR Games for Rehabilitations.
“This project was developed to help those who have injuries on their knee and ankle so to speed up their recovery.
“The game gained a lot of attention from the public as it was fun to play while training their balancing technique. Although UTM did not win the top award, but the experience and knowledge gained are tremendous,” said Dr. Yeong.
Dr. Yeong said that this project was a long term collaboration between UTM and Techcare Innovation Sdn Bhd. Mr Salehuddin Loke did his Internship with Techcare Innovation and eventually converted this project into his Final Year Project.
“This project also had previously won and represented Malaysia to APICTA 18th which was held in Guangzhou, China. This is a good example that UTM always look forward for project that can be beneficial to the industry and community,” said Dr. Yeong
